Under African Skies

No, it wasn't a dream....we really did go on a safari to Africa. To say the least it
was amazing and unforgettable...there isn't anyplace else on Earth like Kenya. We saw
so many things...The Great Rift Valley, Karen Blixen's farm (she wrote the book
Out of Africa, one of my very favorite books), the Masai Mara game reserve,
Sweetwater game reserve, got to see Mt. Kenya, Amboseli game reserve, Lake
Nakuru bird sanctuary and home of the rare White Rhinoceros. We crossed the
Equator several times, and I finally got to see what the Southern Cross looks
like in the Southern Hemisphere sky. We went to Nairobi and Mombasa and
saw the azure blue and very warm Indian Ocean, saw beautiful birds and got to see the Big Five
animals..visited the chimpanzee sanctuary that Jane Goodall started, we marveled
at the enormous African sky, and got to stay beneath the majestic Mt. Kilamanjaro.

A June Wedding

On June 25th our son Alexander married the girl of his dreams...Erica Neuffer.
The day was perfect, the weather amazing, the wedding was beautiful,
and the reception was lovely. The best part of the day for Mark and
I was getting the chance to have all of our children and grandchildren
together....at least for a day! Who knows when that might happen again.
Congratulations to Erica and Alex!

Egypt Anyone? Anyone?

What are grandparents to do when their little 4 year old grandson
is obsessed with anything having to do with Egypt? Well, since
things are just slightly crazy in the middle east right now, that
pretty much cancels out any exotic trips to Egypt. So we settled
for the next best thing.....a visit to The Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.
It worked out perfectly since Sarah, Jeremy and Elliot flew into
the Vegas Airport where we met up with them and took Elliot
to see the sphinx, an obelisk, and a real (although modern) pyramid.
Not bad, since we were able to throw in a stroll down the streets
of New York, and a tasty visit to M & M World along The Strip.
Then we all spent a very fun Presidents Day Weekend just hanging
out in St. George, hiking up Snow Canyon, riding bikes, and walking
around Zion National Park. Alex and Erica were also able to
join us for some fun.
